- Hii. So here it starts.I learnt playing chess in may. Before that the rook goes in diagonals and the bishop -straight(For me).In the last two months my ratings fell greatly to 700 and after that i started practicing and solving tactical puzzles daily. Now my ratings are 900+(in rapid).I play with my friends who are casual players .A friend of mine suggested me to play tourneys here and i started to do so .my performance wast satisfactory as i won a couple of trophies in some and good standings in others. (15 min rapid) Now the problem arises - my ratings are never 1000+. They oscillate between 920-996.I can beat a 1050 or so rated player but on the same day i loose by a 700 after doing blunders. I want suggestions on this topic . I think i am terrible at the endgame so you can suggest me names of books or techniques to sharpen them [please don't think that i m good in openings or in the middlegame i have so much to learn about chess as i am merely a 900 rated player.] what you had done when you were a 900 or so player to improve.your suggestions will be extremely helpful to me
what you had done when you were at 900 ratings to improve

I checked a recent game of yours. You break almost every opening principle, hang pieces left and right, are totally oblivious to king safety and move pieces with no intent.
Follow these 3 rules in every game and you'll be 1200 in no time.
- Develop all your pieces and castle before moving a piece twice unless you have a huge tactical blow
- Castle the first chance you get, ideally before move 5-6
- Always keep all your pieces protected, don't blunder simple piece hangs
Don't even worry about tactics for now, if you follow these rules, at your level, your opponent will give the game to you by hanging pieces.
And please avoid moving your knights so much, I agree it's an attractive piece, but surely it doesn't deserve that much attention.

You need to eat more pizza.
This is not a joke. Seriously, your rating is low and it has nowhere to go but up, and it will go up as long as you continue to play rated games. I would also suggest listening to the Bach violin concertos to put you in the right frame of mind, and a small statue of Buddha on your desk next to your computer from which to draw inspiration.

I would like to thank all of you especially nimzo, ralral and sapnu. Nimzomalasyan thanks for analysing a game of mine and informing about the weakness of my playing style .your suggestions will certainly help me to gain my ambition. Thanks all of you for the help.

I stopped playing live chess for a few months (at least blitz) and played daily and then I went back played a few tournaments and jumped to 1200
i am like Ankitkiran stuck between 900-1000, but i learned a lot of things i need to be doing,
thanks guys, r.j.
I used to be an active chess player years before with an rating of 1300-1400. But I quit it for years and only started playing again when a friend of mine asked me to play a match with him. I registered this new account, but my chess skills were so rusty that I instantly dropped to 800.I started reading chess books and articles to catch up stuff, and I'm now back at 1250.
