Whats a book move??

In game analysis some moves are rated as a 'book move' as opposed to a good/excellent/blunder move for example (at the beginning of games).

Whats the deal with book move? Sounds kinda bland 📔

Is that it ... if its in a book .... Book Move?

A book move is basically a move that has been advised to do for a long time those moves are usually in books so book move

GET YO FACTS RIGHT PEOPLE a book move is a theoritical move, i.e.

it is within the grasp of today's opening theory.

#3, #4 and #5 are all wrong

#2 is a useless pic

Avatar of VikrantPlaysD4

#6, #7, #8 and #9 are all correct XD

Agreed 😅So would it be fair to say

-Its a tried and tested solid move in opening theory  ?

Potentially ..How far into a game can moves remain book moves? 🙄

Avatar of Scottrf

A book move is any move preceding a novelty.

Avatar of Eddie2222

Ok Scottrf 👌...preceeding a novelty implies you can go autopilot like you see GMs do in blits games...until you have to analyse.

How far is based on how many moves both side follow "theory/book moves". When one player deviates from a game that their theory or book moves are following then they're on their own or out of book. That can be just a couple moves into the game or something rediculous like over 30.

Wow!

Avatar of Eddie2222

Thanks for the views on book openings ;-)   -ronaldjosephcote, Hey, I don't go autopilot with GMs wink.png ...but see a lot of that , esp watching some of the blitz games. I'm still a novice -plenty of room for improvement!

All book up to (and including) White's move 28. Black's 28th move was the first novelty.

Refer: Sznapik vs Ljangov, Sandomeirtz Poland 1976.

Got a chance to loot at that game -a lot of developing moves for sure.

Analysis showed first 8 moves were book moves though- 🤔
