what's chess960??
It's a chess variant created by Bobby Fischer (in fact, its actual name is "Fischer Random Chess"), who feared that chess would be solved at the rate that players were improving. In Chess960, the pieces on the back rank are randomized (both players start with the same setup, though), effectively eliminating theory and forcing quick improvisation instead. The nickname comes from the fact that there are 960 possible starting positions. The only rules for the starting position are that the bishops must be on opposite colors (for example, they can't be on the d- and f-files) and the king must be between the rooks.
