Well at least I know I'm not writing exclusively for myself now. If you only knew how glad I was to discover the forums. Like a kid with a new toy.

Yes perhaps worthless is the incorrect word for people because it's not exactly that... Everyone has worth in some form. But people who subscribe to pop culture and are oblivious to refined tastes in art, politics, or/and uneducated in science tend to be a dime a dozen... And those people have nothing worthwhile to say in regards to the arts... That isn't to say they are worthless in all areas. They have social value to their family and friends, and might even be perfectly kind, decent people.

But this is highly frustrating because the mass's artistic taste is so deeply interwoven with media and what's spoon fed to them... Basically when an artist feels unappreciated it's also a frustration with the lack of truth, meaning, and depth in society at large. It's a frustration with our fundamental lack of humanity as a result of a culture that values only what can sell the most and make the most money the most quickly. It is a frustration with the fact that the world we live in is based on deceit, manipulation and cold trickery at the highest level of advertising. And when something real and human comes along, no one cares. It's tragic.

Of course another aspect of this conversation is that the readers of this forum are likely to be less prone to the above than the average of the whole population, which makes it somewhat odd that the OP has said these things here.

This subject fascinates me, and I want to make it clear that I see this as a problem with the structure of society rather than persons themselves. That would be like blaming innocent citizens in a war stricken country for the war.

I don't put myself above anyone else, unless I judge them to have an unforgivable character flaw after I get to know them, like being a racist, fascist, bigot, general sociopath, etc. or if they attack me personally without just cause (often those things all go hand in hand). I put myself far above those people and anyone who claims otherwise is lying or one of them... Humans judge. I'm not afraid to admit that I do. I value truth even if it's uncomfortable.

I believe the OP is not actually upset with you guys. This is just a convenient place to vent frustrations with society. I don't know if the OP realizes this himself or not.

Macer, I actually believe it. I browse a lot of threads and there's a lot of smart people on here. Lots of not so smart people too, but overall, I have a greater respect for this community than most other online communities. Considering this forum is based on a game that anyone can play rather than this forum being founded for some specific intellectual purpose, there are a lot of intelligent topics being discussed. Sometimes it's hard to see this amongst all the hate. But I try to see the good in the world when it's actually there. And there's a lot of it here. To expect everything and everyone to always live up to the highest standard is unrealistic.
