It's supposed to be good for avoiding the real Sicilians. The Sicilians shut down the Spanish and the Closed Sicilian shuts down the shut down.
whats makes the closed sicilian so appealing at the club level?

The problem is that you just understand your part of the narrative, and I know you have created multiple threads about the same topic. So, it's very clear that it's meaningless to tell you. I would also suggest others not to go too deep into explaining something.

I think the best option for you would be to play the closed Sicilian yourself. I think then you will understand the other part of the narrative as well.

ive looked at both, the open sicilian is what gives white the best chances
and id rather have a better positon with more attacking plans rather than a closed sicilian where black is faster to make counterplay on the queenside or center
many people here and on lichess love to either play the alapin or grand prix. most just make up something or copy whatever opening they play agianst e5. but all of these are much more passive and give up initiative and hand equality to black
the open sicilian however is so much more challenging and gives black a much more difficult game where he could lose if he makes one wrong move. Do all white players just go by the "i gotta play something dumb to annoy them" or do they think the closed sicilians are genuinely better than the open sicilians.
as a sicilian player. the open seems and feels much more challenging and is harder to play. yet most people as white avoid the open sicilian in search for a worse variation. why?
