What's the worst thing about chess? Should I convert to a more fulfilling game?

Beast719 -- we all have to face a crisis of chess-faith on our journey to chess enlightenment. Yours too shall pass. Do not give in to the temptations of backgammon -- it may seem like the easy way now, the pieces all look the same, the alluring rattle of the dice, the thrill of doubling -- but this is the way to damnation and madness. Remember that the Encrypticon Encyclopedia defines "Gammon" as "the pointy haired beast [note the points on the backgammon table!] beloved of Beelzebub." Thus the etymology of "back-gammon" as a return to the beast worship that preceded the dawn of chess.

Of the corrupt flesh-pleasures of checkers, I need say nothing. Any pastime played on a red and black folded piece of cardboard speaks for itself. You are meant for better things, my friend.

I urge you not to face the crisis alone. Join me in the Sri Lankan monastery Lloch Nestrifastruf in the mountains of Southern Basrabia. Here the monks play simultaneous blindfolded bughouse chess for 20 hours a day. Their alpha waves are unmeasurable: at the highest levels, every game ends in a stalemate.

Have faith, my friend!

Correct me if I'm wrong and perhaps if read elsewhere (other than a Beast post, that is), but I believe this has already been incorporated into Welsh-rules chess?

Sans pool, of course. And the swimsuits are all long sleeved and pants. Furthermore, the co-ed tourneys are segregated into four (4) non-male and non-female brackets.

Edit: Clarification - The brackets are still co-ed genetically speaking,  but are now categorized by gender-expression:

  1. masculine
  2. feminine
  3. neither (neuter)
  4. both (androgynous)

You can try Checkers, so the tranisition won't be too harsh, and then play Solitaire, which is almost the same as meditation.

Freecell is an awesome solo strategy game where every game is winnable.

I do hope you realise that leaving the chess community isn't looked happily on, and you might suffer a honor related death accident due to your flirting with the other board games.

i agree: the chess mafia will be very displeased if you leave.

He teaches hyper-modernism and counter-intuitivism styles...which are distinctly from the Welsh school of chess.  See previous posts.

The worst thing about chess is all the blood noses!

Yes, full of creamery custard filling.

And with crispy, flakey goodness on the outside.

I can't believe in your biography. How you can teach Rwandan kids chess with your online rating 1362? How the knight moves? Sorry, you are beginner. Also can't take seriously all this talk about conversion, there is nothing to convert from. Of course, if you like Backgammon you can play it as much as you want, but I would rather teach the kids chess.

yeah so the hook line and sinker goes on...

Yep, although the replies are sometimes even more amusing than the first of Beast's posts.

Looks like we're running low on hooks and the reel is just about out of line. Congratualtions, Beast, you should be a fisherman - you have the gift for making lures, picking the best bait and definately for telling tales.

Kernicterus

Rollingpawns.  Don't you think you're being a little harsh?  You don't have to be a grandmaster to teach chess.  The kids in Kigali are rated like 400 - 600 from what I heard and so he's doing them a huge benefit.  Plus they don't have food so at least they can play chess to take their minds off the problems.

Ricardo_Morro

When I tire of chess, I play strategy games like "Samurai Swords."

I just discovered, if you spin in a circle quickly for about 10-15 minutes and then read the forums you get a really wild perspective...........just thinking outloud...
