Whats your favorite piece?

I would say the knight, because those are the only pieces that can fork. Also you can't put a piece in front of them to stop their advance.

I covet the opponent's king.  The value of my pieces in any game depends on their role in getting him

The Pawn.

It depends on who I am playing.  Against a 10 year old who is new to the game, I love the knight, because it is fun, and I feel comfortable where a novice wouldn't.  But then against a player rated any higher than I am, I find I am wishing for a 10 year old to fall for my knight's tricks.  In a real game, the pawn never fails to leave me in awe of it's power-  so little, yet so frustrating when it is in your way.

I love Rooks because of their power; Knights because they cover so much ground; Bishops because when Rooks and Knights are in the trenches, Bishops speed by unnoticed; Queen because they're big and bad; but it always seems like the little guys--the pawns--SBD's very quiet, die cuz no one loves em' yet, kick butt cuz they get promoted!

Cool

Pawn, because they take more skill to be used to their full potential. (not that i have that skill, i just realize that i don't have it.)

For me, the most important piece is the King.  When you loose it, it is over!

the pawn of course, it becomes a queen

I like the knight. His flexibility is very good in tight positions.

My last name, Bischoff, is German for Bishop - so I have to send a little love the bishops way. They're amazing in pairs in the end game - controlling both colors of squares. I like to imagine them as wicked avenging scimitars or something.

And as it turns out, my first name looks like a rook more: Rook (on A) to e1, which is super cool, though Rooks aren't my favorite. Rooks lack subtlety, they're too brash, too demanding.

Knights are the quintessence of chess. I love them against beginners, who cannot yet visualize their attacks. Knights are Batman, crashing through skylights.

I don't really have a favourite piece, as what piece is best really depends on the situation.

However, I judge the aesthetic appeal of a chess set on the knights. If they're sculpted badly they can really wreck the look of a set.

I love the knight(s).... threatening forks, jumping deep into the opponents position, and checking checks that can't be blocked. and when it comes to defending ill pick a knight over a bishop most of the time because they are a bit more flexible.

Agree

Yeah, I agree with davisbrian. The pawn's my favorite piece too! Ever so useful for beginnings... sometimes crushing everything in their way... muahahahaha.
