and what do you mean, "the slav defense is the best way to reply to the QG"? That's just not a statement you can back up.

Ragozin is better than slav imo. Both are just rude though, accept the QG.

The QGA is definitely inferior to the Slav, the QGD, and nearly all the other ways of declining the QG.  With the QGA, Black weakens their control of the center, loses a tempo, and doesn't even get to keep a pawn.

Yes the QGA is weaker than Slav, I never said otherwise though.

Why did you say it was rude not to play the QGA then?  No offense intended, I'm just confused here.  happy.png

Rude as in... just accept it because it is the most fun. I like QGA games as white, what can I say.

it is not fun for the black end though. I know from experience

Ye, that's why I like to play Ragozin as black wink.png.

It’s amazing to me that people argue over best openings the way gamers argue about mouses & keyboards, photographers argue about cameras, tennis players argue about racquets, and weightlifters argue about protein powders.

The differences are small, on the order of a percentage point or two in win%.

On the board, yes. happy.png

I just love to argue.  So when I'm talking with chess players, I'll argue about openings.  When I'm talking with fellow pianists, I'll talk about how much better my interpretation of Mozart's piano sonata in A minor is better than their interpretation of Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu.  And when I'm with fellow physics nerds, I'll argue about branches of string theory and why gravity is so much weaker than the other forces.

Gravity is weak? Lots more people die of gravity-related reasons than electromagnetic, weak, and strong forces!

I am really hoping that you do understand what I mean about the weakness of gravity, and that you're some physics major or something trolling me. If you don't, and want to test how weak it is, try using a small magnet to lift a nail off the ground.  When you do so, a magnet the size of your finger is countering the gravity of the entire Earth.  That should give you an idea of the scale difference.  If you still don't understand it, I highly recommend Jorge Cham's book We Have No Idea.  Or you can google it.  But I hope that you understand physics well enough that you don't need any of that.

As for the number of people that die, I wouldn't be too sure.  Lots of people die in electricity-caused fires, doing wiring work, etc.  How many people actually die from falls?  I can't find conclusive data for either, but I wouldn't put money on either means of death- it looks like a tossup.

Nf6. Thinking of switching to f5 (only Roman reigns can kick out of an f5).

Google says 27,000 die of falls and 200 die of electrocution in the US. Gravity is 13,500x stronger!!!

My favorite reply if I can get it is the Grünfeld defense though its hard to play.

IHaveTHEChessSkill

Stop! This is not even chess related! Please argue to each other in a pc or pm so the rest of us do not have to hear it!

NikkiLikeChikki
I guess my attempt at Dadaist comedy failed. You see, it is related. Arguing about d4 openings and which is best is pointless and absurd. We could literally talk about anything, for instance if chess is a draw, and it would resolve as much about d4 replies. Now Andy did you hear about this one?

But what about electric-caused fires?  Those are in the thousands.  And it is often harder to document electric fires in poorer countries like India or Cambodia, where the government does not have as much money involved in researching that kind of thing, than it is to document people falling off of cliffs.  Your claims seem dubious.
