When Do You Get Most Nervous in Chess & How Does it Feel?

For me, it's when I have a lead/advantage or am closing in on mating my opponent and DON'T WANT TO MESS UP.  I start to fidget and the tension in my brain is unbearable.  It feels like I'm going to explode at any minute and I have to calm myself down to focus.

When I'm down/losing, I oddily don't have the same level of tension or nerves.  Don't get me wrong, I DO feel nervous and tense, but it's actually greater when I'm on the verge of victory and it requires precise play.

When I am being attacked.  It feels nerve wracking.

I feel like after you lose enough that feeling goes away, at least online it's probably different in real life. Is it a ego losing thing? I used to feel that way too.

after I lose

In the first few moves with somebody I have never played before, but I know I will play again.  Not an ego thing necessarily.  Just want people to get an accurate representation of my chess abilities from square one, whether I lose or win.

Before starting the games. I think everyone knows about chess.

Then they start making positional mistakes, play 1...h6, I get comfortable, crush them, blunder a won position, lose and wait for the next round.

I can relate.  As soon as I see a move I believe is questionable, I gain confidence.  I can also relate to blundering won positions and losing.
