When people play the Sicilian against me, I play the craziest moves to get them out of book lines.

Who else agrees with me?

Almost nobody.

The problem is that if you are playing the craziest moves then you are playing weak moves.

And that is OK if you think that you can then outplay them on tactics from an inferior position.

Is it working for you?

Since you like to play the London, it would be very odd for someone to play the Sicilian against you.

I play e4 in tournaments....sometimes.  And I play the craziest moves against the Sicilian haha.

I always play 1...c5 against 1.e4, and I loved the Dragon as a child, but on chess.com I get a lot of 3.Bc4, which the computer tells me is the Bowdler Attack, which brings a smile to my countenance, because the original Bowdler is known for taking the dirty parts out of Shakespeare ("bowdlerize"), and I wouldn't mind being known for putting the dirty parts right back into Shakespeare.

Why did you make this if you're not gonna give us games where you do this stupidity?

Someone sounds like an expert in human emotion.

Some people need to be more direct about why they're talking about.

that may work with lower rated players, but wait untill you get a good player they will eat you alive, i play some really dumb moves , and the better players get me . moves like moving both knights out and moving them back waisting two moves, but i have won  as well

Bongcloud_420

I agree

I would stick to the main line theory if you are still under 2200. Otherwise, do whatever you want

I think there's a tendency to overestimate how scary other peoples' opening knowledge is. If the other person is the same rating as me, chances are they don't know their openings all that much better and I'll take my chances playing whatever move feels most natural/correct. Of course sometimes I get unlucky and and end up in a line they actually do know inside out, but in that case all you can do is shrug it off and try to learn from it for the next game. I'd probably lose as many playing something weird just to 'get them out of book', and I feel I learn more by making an honest attempt to play the best move.

After years of playing chess. I decided to stop playing e4 as a starting move.
One of the reasons for this, is the Sicilian defense.

So ever since then, My openings and defenses were the ones that weren't studied much:
As White:
b4(polish opening)/f4(birds opening)
As black
F5 (Against e4)
E5 (Against d4)
and
F5(Against c4)

Thanks for all the feedback gentleman and women.

Not too crazy, but I like to as well.

@LeonSKennedy992 Could you give some examples. I don't know what you mean. What do you mean by "crazy"? Gambit lines? Unusual moves?

SIowMove

If you're facing a prepared opponent, nothing you play will surprise them. They'll be booked up against every possible move you can throw at them. Even random g2-g4 pawn pushes or h2-h4 attempts.

So your best option is to play strong moves, not weird ones. This way, you'll still have a good position, whether or not your opponent is surprised by your choices.
