When Should You Open the Center?
My Gosh how could you play such a terrible move.
Nc3?!
What an inaccuracy!
What on earth were you thinking!!!
What does Nc3 even do for your position?
It is completely obvious d4 is the best move in this position.
My Gosh hasn't anyone ever told you what your doing in this position???
Your goal is to get both pawns to e4 & d4.
When you play 1.e4 you are gaining space & threating to play d4 next.
Your opponent immediately responded by playing 1...e5.
The e5 pawn push defends the d4 square!!!
Black is trying to prevent you from playing d4!
You than play 2.Nf3 hitting the e5 pawn & the d4 square!
You are threatening to win the e5 pawn if your opponent doesn't respond.
Plus, You are positionally threatening to play d4!
Your opponent should respond to these threats with 2...Nc6!
It defends e5 + d4.
However, No your opponent played 2...Qf6???
You have the chance to do a direct attack with the pawn move 3.d4!!!
The pawn move 3.d4 add's another attacker to the e5 pawn.
You would be double attacking the e5 pawn.
Than you played 3.Nc3?!
How sad!
You are letting black slip through your fingers.
You should punish him.
I think 3.d4 is better than 3.Nc3 since it attacks your opponent instead of yourself.
If 3.d4 you are attacking e5 which is your opponent.
If you 3.Nc3 you are attacking yourself on e4
There is absolutely nothing wrong with 3.Nc3
It follows Opening Principles by developing a minor piece toward the center, and puts you ahead in development.
3.d4 is a bit more forcing as youre immediately contesting the center.
Either move is ok.
I think 3.d4 is better than 3.Nc3 since it attacks your opponent instead of yourself.
If 3.d4 you are attacking e5 which is your opponent.
If you 3.Nc3 you are attacking yourself on e4
I thought 3.Nc3 empties a square for the rook.
Oh yeah I didn't notice that RetiFan.
Developing your rook is a great idea.
The rook is now at least three times as powerful as it was in the olden days.
May you guys please explain why my Nc3 move is considered an inaccuracy? In what cases should I open up the center immediately?
