When was the last time you cried after losing a chess game?

I don't think I ever have, but I certainly have raged - especially after stupid blunders.

I never cried after losing a game, but I punched a wall so hard it left imprints after I lost a easily won game in the last round and threw away first place.  My hand ached for days after that; stupidity compounded by stupidity.  But at least I learned not to take it out on the wall--the wall didn't cost me the game, I did.

Never cried, but my mice (the computer device, I don't hurt animals) have a much shorter life cycle since I play online chess :)

Ain't that the truth.  Mine, too.  Laughing

As I said, stupidity compounded by stupidity.  I only "played that variation" once; believe me, it was enough.  Laughing

I too have incurred untold injuries to nearby inanimate objects after making a blunder.

I've felt like killing myself many times, but didn't cry.

I have never cried after losing a game of chess, broken a lot of stuff but never cried. The part that makes me sad is after you beat someone like a young junior and they start crying it makes you feel dead inside.

If you were crying they would just laugh.

Chess is a game, sharing many characteristics of "games" generally.  A true (and healthy) perspective will keep you from taking it too seriously.  Keep in mind that chess is best percieved as entertainment.

To be sure, our blunders are irksome, but only because they provide evidence that we are both fallible and careless.  To be a "bad loser" is to provide a valuable insight regarding character, namely, amongst other things, that pride and envy have too strong a grip.

Hugh of St. Victor (perhaps not too well known, although no less wise for that) made some insightful comments on pride and envy, including their effect as well as, most significanly, their remedy.  His commentary on The Sermon on the Mount is excellent reading for any one who is interested.  I've added a little more on this on my blog.
