If you ask the question during a game, "Where are all my pieces?", and then you look at the board and see a whole bunch of your opponents pieces there, this means that you are losing terribly and should resign. Resigning is when you gracefully admit defeat, and stop playing. It is also a way to show that you have the capability to know when you have been defeated. So, if you want to play chess and not be a monkeys bum, then either learn when you have lost or brush up on your fundamentals.
