Yes I thought so. Chess definitely originated in Asia -> I wasn't sure which country but India sounds reasonable

Fun fact: You know the "indian" openings? Kings indian, Bogo Indian, Queen's Indian, Nimzo-Indian, etc.? That comes from the fact that when chess was first created you could only move the pawn one square forward on the first move. That's why the "indian" openings include pawn moves only one square forward.

Chess was invented by a little old lady from Leningrad while waiting for her batch of vodka to be distilled. It’s why Russians are so good at chess. Everything else is a lie.

No. I didn’t search it up, I made it up. It’s only slightly less ridiculous than the nauseating arguments about where chess was invented. What was invented where the hell ever is only superficially similar to what we play now. It was changed because it was boring, and the massive changes in the rules created in Europe made the game much more dynamic and interesting. But hey, if you want to play a game where a “queen” can move only one square diagonally and an elephant that moves only two squares diagonally, be my guest. Just don’t call it chess.

This topic has been raised many, many times before, ad nauseam. It's an endless repeat.

In the Big Bang Theory, Penny wants to understand Physics and what her boyfriend Leonard does, so she asks Sheldon to explain. Rather than keep it simple, Sheldon starts to explain how Physics and some of its terminology developed in ancient Greece. He starts his explanation with, "It's a warm summer evening . . ."

Somehow, this posting reminded me of that scene, a pointless repetition of a topic already discussed.  (I guess you had to be there. wink.png )
