Where is Everybody?

Suddenly there are approx. 1.8 million players on blitz chess rather than the former 3.6 million players enrolled not long ago. That's  approx. 2 million players less. Can anybody explain to me what is going on. Thank you gentlemen. 

The Global leaderboards only count players active over the last 90 day I think. While that may not fully explain the change, if there was one, it could have some impact. Also, it's possible that some changes were made in the query that generates that and that is the more accurate value.

Let's say there's 100 skill levels.

Let's say there's 24 hours in a day.

1,000,000 ÷ 100 ÷ 24 = 416

The range of time controls from 5 m to say official 90+60, that's 5 to 150, let's say 15 increments.

416 ÷ 15 = 27

And that's being generous with the graduations of the factors.

If Chess.com tightens time control, with a minimal of 40/0, then you will have more matchups.

The site used to have a feature if you referred a player and they got premium, you would get a month if Diamond. Had nothing to do with friends on the site though.
