Whether or not chess is a sport

In my home state, Oregon, an article today announced the benefits of the World Athletics Championship in the city of Eugene. Athletes, fans, and media from over 200 countries will be there they said. And it's supposed to bring in somewhere between 50 million and 200 million dollars to the area.

However, one person, an elderly man with a shock of white hair, a deranged look on his face, crawled out from his tent upon hearing the news. He muttered something to himself about chess should be included, but then stumbled back into his tent, and hasn't been heard of or seen of since.

It's a lie. I haven't ever even been to Oregon, although I once flew over it.

Chess is a CEREBRAL "sport"...

Quite right but tell that to a madman. Sorry, rephrase that. Tell that to someone who, completely for their own reasons, is convinced it either is a sport or should be a sport.

Not this again

The fact is it has long been established as a sport. No one's opinion to the contrary changes the fact.

That’s never been long established, but okay.

This is the third thread you claim the same thing, and also the third time that noone cares.

Yes, it certainly has or I wouldn't have said it.

In fact, the IOC has recognzized it as a sport dating back to just after the turn of the millenium.

I also proved it a sport years ago using argument by definition. Additionally, hundreds of countries recognize chess is a sport.

Someone's opinion had nothing to do with the fact it was a sport and no one's opinion has anything to do with the fact it's still a sport today.

Why do you always ask this question?

Just because you said something doesn’t make it true. That logic makes absolutely no sense.

I no longer believe chess is a sport.   Like many have said it really is just a "math equation"   Just about memorizing lines of theory,  and no matter who your opponent is once you make a mistake there is no point in even playing the game.   THe community,  the game itself,  is the most unsporting and fake  I've ever seen.  And all these contradicting snobby autistic fake cretins is not something I would want anyone in my family to be a part of.  I'm done.

You know, chess communities are a bit different. A lot of people are overly self-aware without being sufficiently aware of others, and it's easy to be caught up in that.

I like how you really express yourself through a love of music.

Oh, forgive me. I didn’t see the second half of your post. The IOC doesn’t make the rules unfortunately. Them recognizing chess as a sport doesn’t quite change anything.

Just because something may be physically exerting doesn't make it a sport lol. If you played a long game of poker with your entire life savings, you would probably sweat a lot and physically exert yourself, but it's still not a sport LOL. It's not actually physical activity

I didn't say because I said something made it true, I said if it wasn't a fact, that I wouldn't have said it. Your fallacy is a strawman fallacy. My proven assertion made perfect sense whether or not you agree.

Then it must be!

It's your fact. It isn't a fact for me though.

The IOC is an interested party and therefore it's right to be very sceptical.

Not true. Unlike your opinion which can be yours and subjective, the objective facts belong to everyone and are not subject to anyone's opinion. If it is your aim to oppose facts, it's not a position to brag about.

Facts are based on evidence. Perhaps you missed that.

I think you just like arguing for its own sake. Trouble is, arguing by saying that all your opinions are facts and can't be opposed isn't actually supporting an argument in any way. You would have to try to make a case for why you're correct, not for why you think that calling your opinion "factual" is a sure win which defeats all opposition.

Anyway, I never brag about being correct. About being good looking .... sure!
