which black opening is best for intermediate player?

i always struggle to play as black cuz I don't know how to respond to opening I never learnt. is there a opening I can use for anything?

I'm learning french defense, but it's so weak for developing pieces especially for white bishop
Simplest and best is to defend 1 e4 e5 and 1 d4 d5.
If you look for an opening to use against everything, then either the Hippopotamus,
or the Hedgehog spring to mind, but they lead to cramped positions.
