Hello,

In almost every game I play, I find it hard to come up with a plan. I can develope pieces during the opening pretty well, but when the middle game starts I don't have a real plan. I find it hard to come up with a strategy. Which chess book would you recommend reading to improve my middle games, especially with making some plans instead of playing pieces just randomly.

Thanks in advance!

Actually not a book at all, but Silman's CM course "The Roots of Positional Understanding". This is a really hard course and it goes on forever.  Actually understanding these concepts will give you the tools to make your own plans though so it's worth the effort.  Yes that does mean review...

Or you could browse through Coach Heisman's book list.  This is for his recommended anthologies, but you can browse the whole list.  Heck, read a few of his award winning Novice Nook columns (I always have to magnify them a little) and you might not need anything else.  Ain't chess fun?

From your chess.com ratings, before you plunge too deep into planning I'd recommend a more basic book like Irving Chernov's Logical Chess: Move by Move.

For planning I found Silman's How to Reassess Your Chess to be very helpful.

The book by Keres and Kotov, The Art of the Middle Game was translated by an IM who added an intro on planning, which was also quite good.

I would overwhelmingly recommend you to read Pawn Structure Chess by Andy Soltis. If you dont have that book, I'm not sure how you'll be able to accurately generate plans.

In addition to the books I would also recommend reviewing some GM games. You can look through some yourself, but it's also really helpful to watch some Youtube videos where people review chess games and explain what is going on. There are even some good lectures from GMs on Youtube.
