Ronald, oh lord, thou shalt divide and conquer, my lord

Russia is obviously the stongest country, but with chess so promoted I'd assume it has many more players in FIDE than a lot of countries. Despite that I assume its the strongest based on average rating.

India has a lot of players, but comparitively not that many strong players, I can only think of two exceptionally strong ones off the top of my head.

Iceland is a good contestant, I actually remember a similar thread where the general opinion was that Iceland had the highest average rating, due to their high number of strong players v low population.

Other than that this Ronald guy who thinks he's patzer games contribute to the discussion..is..well...

Lizarazu94

And the country with relatively the most GMs is Iceland. But yeah, that does not say anything about ''the best''.

ameraljic

Like I said, 1438 is the average Bosnian rating on this site. I find that pretty high.

Russia is overwhelmingly strong. The fact that their 100th most strong player is rated at 2521 is outstanding. On the other hand Iceland's strongest player is rated at 2580. Clearly, there is no match. Iceland's players are also relatively quite old ,born mostly in the 50s and 60s, compared to younger Russia, Ukraine, China or France. In India chess has boomed only recently and a lot of promising young players have arisen. Hopefully many more crosses the GM mark in the future. Another country that has made an impression is Phillipines, with lots of young and strong players.

Having more Gms per capita doesn't make much sense since the whole population doesn't actively play chess. If one wants a per capita comparison, they need to calculate the ratio between number of GMS and active fide rated players.

Ukrainians are the strongest.

Does that include the people of Crimea ?.

You must know this as good as I know. Your country gave guarantees to help us in protecting our borders in the agreement of 1994. But your country's "guarantees" cost nothing.

If you want just to throll the forum go find another forum for this. I'm not gonna disscuss with you any politics or Crimean question.

Just asking... because the people who live in Crimea seem to have got the impression that they are now Russian...is that not why the Ukrainian forces have now surrendered all of their military bases in the Crimea to the Russian forces ?.

Arabian players are tough

Trotters 64....thank you for your countries participation in economic sanctions to help resolve this military invasion of a peaceful country and the resultant impasse.Your country, together with other major western democracies is determined to reverse this military expansion of V.Putin by using a series of increasingly severe economic measures. Here in Australia we join you and your country in condemning this appalling situation in such a peace loving and chess loving nation.Ukraine loves its chess and aims to participate successfully at the highest international level.Once again, thank you Trotters64 for your nations continued fight against oppresion.
