Which rating # to go by?
Maybe I shouldn't have used # to phrase this. In the screenshot above what would you say my rating is? Ratings are different in 5 and 10 minute games it appears.
Your rating can vary depending on the time control, and it seems like preference these days of which rating to go by. (rapid & blitz are the main two) Though when someone asks me what my rating is I say I am 2000 but that's in rapid like I don't usually tell people I am 1700 in blitz as that's a lower rating.
Hopefully this answers your question and good luck with your future chess endeavors ![]()
Your Chess.com rating is different from your OTB rating is different from your FIDE rating is different from "insert any rating here". Your rating only matters in the context of the platform you play on.
Thanks O-O & mai. This answers it!
Sorry didn't realize the question was answered.

This is good info too, I have read about tournament ratings vs chess.com ratings. Searching for 'OTB rating' shows this result from 2010, looks like this has been discussed before:
One response was brilliant, 'Basically you're asking what your badge number is without being a police officer.' LOL

This is a beginner question. When discussing ratings, what rating number do you go by? See the screenshot below.
I can beat bots rated 1200 in 5 minute games I think the best I've beaten had a listed rating of 180, in 10 minute games around 450. I see everyone in the forums discussing ratings and honestly couldn't tell you mine
