I agree with Pals; from what I know of watching interviews with Anand.
Doesn't carry his competitivity off the board and interviews tend to be situated at school grounds (whether that's PR or not i'm not sure).
Who are the nicest chess players at the top?

Spassky was said to be very polite, although I think he was TOO kind in his match against Fischer.
Spassky said after the 92 match he played bad on purpose so that Fischer wouldnt walk away. I think that is very mean and selfish,

Definitely not Fischer. That guy was a selfish a**hole. Although a great player.
no i believe you are a .... Why else would you insult such a great honest player. Bobby Fischer was probably the only top chess player ever, were we know with absolute certainty that he wasnt an a.. and selfish.
He always told the truth and said what he thought. Even top players seldom seem to have such a character and guts. Most people tend do be less honest and do everything for tiny profits really and are hilarious and pathetic.
Im not saying all are bad, but a great bunch of players ofc are, Fischer was not. If you are not a bad guy yourself, why would say that about Fischer???
Why would someone throw a stone at Jesus, if he had no blood on his hands??
I think the reason all hate Fischer, is because people are low life and would do shady things and lie for really small money. they have no character and are pathetic, so when they see a proud person like Fischer, they realise what low life losers they reall are.
LOL. What truth? that aryan race should dominate the whole world? that all jew should be killed? that america deserve 911 attacked?
He was a great player but he was a coward and egoestic a-jole.
stop worshipping the dead.

Its true Karpov isn't well liked amongst the old peeps in chess...
At the moment I like: Caruana and Anand

did he ever mention the arian race?? i think he never said something about other races

Kramnik seems really nice and does a great job of explaining his ideas after games. As much as I enjoy hearing lines of analysis I can't follow or understand it's nice to hear someone give the reasons behind them every once and a while. Svidler also does a great job of this.

You could refer to Korchnoy's view on Karpov as well. OTOH Henley speaks very well of him. (And I do regard capitalism as essential for freedom.)
It seems like all of the top players (the elite who are in the limelight) are well-behaved as far as I've seen (well, except for Topalov's accusations against Kramnik). I wouldn't mind hearing more about those who wear their hearts more on their sleeves though.
(Hmmm didn't realize this thread was already on the third page; I was replying after reading messages on the first page...)
Anand is a nice guy and a great sportsman!
Peter Svidler also comes across as great guy. I love how he actually talks to the chess fans about his game at the press conferences. Where others are like "I was better then I missed some tactics and the endgame is probably drawn" or "what does Houdini say?" or whatever, Peter actually takes the time to show us variations and ideas he had at the board and seems to enjoy it. If I could pick any person in the world for a chess coach, it would be Svidler.
Agreed! After listening to Peter share his thoughts, he seems very easy to speak with and have a decent discussion.
Listing evidence for being nice is different than just saying someone's nice because that's what you've heard. In 2010 Anand donated his gold medal to the charitable organisation "The Foundation" to be auctioned off for the benefit of underprivileged children.
Until someone has higher evidence than this, Anand is the nicest chess player in the world.

without knowing too much about Anand, that doesn't make someone nice. even mean guys can do something nice.
he may be a super nice person but the act alone doens't make someone nice.
nice is how you interact with other people.
In 1991, Kasparov donated his $1,000,000 World Championship trophy to the earthquake victims in Armenia. He had earlier donated his world championship winnings to the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident.
I have never met any of them, so I wouldn't know. But my vote is on Anand.
