generally the concept of chess is invented a long time ago before Europeans started exploring and "discovering" rest of the world. Naturally they learned interesting things from various places and have their own versions of everything. just because they change some rules and names doesn't mean it is their invention... just like just because europeans established a sea route to india doesn't mean you discovered india! (hahaha)... @ five of.... you mentioned indians didn't discover/invent anything??? you must be some racist... Indians invented modern numbering system including "zero". without mathematics and scientific advancement would have been impossible... hinduism/buddhism were concepts originated in india. they are very different from greek stoicism.. I am not a big fan of patenting inventions and discoveries...

HGMuller post was terrible!

Is he really going to agrue the position Mad Queen as a variant of chess!

What an absurd stance he is taking.

Unbelieveable!

Yeah you should file Mad Queen as a variant of chess right next to Fischer random and Suicide chess.

Do you use the same pieces that you use on the Mad Queen variant on the game Japanese chess (Shogi)?

So dumb and weak!

Furthermore, John Boyd Dunlop invented the first air-filled or pneumatic tires in 1888.

He attached rubber hoses to wooden wheels and covered the contact patches with thick canvas.

He did not invite wheels!

He invited tires!

FOS statement was if the queen can not move like normal day.

Than he would not consider the game chess!

Well if you take the rubber off the bottom of the wheels they are not called tires!

He is agruing the tires position!

If you do not understand that than you are a moron.

Even I understand and if I understand something thats pretty bad!

I'm just saying.

When the little retard kid in the corner starts calling you stoopid something is wrong.

Jerry Silman would say to reassess your stance.

or

reassess your chess something like that.

I played football and I used my own helmet. They didn't even have to give me one. I was already equipped!

I was just so happy to be part of the team.

I'm just saying putting it out there.

Chess is believed to have originated in Eastern India, c. 280 – 550 CE, in the Gupta Empire.

Chess was invented in 563, in Persia, by Darius X. Ches.  The game became so popular that his sons formed a company, Darius Ches's Sons, to sell Ches sets. Eventually, the apostrophe in the company name was lost to history, so today we call them chess sets. The pieces and the moves were exactly the same as they are today. Europeans later tried to fiddle with the game, but it didn't take.

Chess was invented by the Lord above who created it on the 6th day.

He rested on the 7th day and played chess with his faithful subjects.

If you wish to know when the game was played by humans. It was played in the Garden of Eden.

You have your answer SIR.

And God said, Let there be chess, and it was so. And God saw his work that he had created, and behold, it was good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

I'm sure I read that in Genesis somewhere.

You know that word actually means "slow", as in how long it takes you to comprehend that the worst posters in this thread contribute more of value than you do. You're a little quick to call others "retard", "moron", or "idiot"--all terms that were very popular with the pseudo-intellectuals at Cold Spring Harbor who advocated legislation grounded in the racial attitudes that you are spewing here.

I remember reading from Five that he suffers from depression and doesn't really get out very much. This probably ties in to his anger and persecution complex ("why does everybody lie so they can disagree with me?").

Some investigators say that chess probably was invented on India, Persia or Egypt

batgirl

Others say Cincinnati.

Ziryab

The evidence is in Cleveland.

SmyslovFan

In which case, the evidence may never be found!

how is it, that someone (in these kinds of threads) is always SO sure of what no expert or scholar exactly knows.

were you present (are you some kind of immortal wizard or something)?

Ziryab

I would say "is believed" does not imply certainty. Others in this thread have been more certain, of course, but they also have been more surely wrong (the EuroCentric hypothesis, for instance).

other europeans

I wonder why the Europeans didn't come up with induction.

ByeAll2016

Chess was invented at the same time as beer.

When you combine the two you get the word Cheer!
