Have you ever seen a player 50 points ahead of the field in the modern era where top players play perfect? Nope.

In terms of raw objective ability and isn't a computer I'd say Carlson.  He'll definately surpass Kasparov's ELO soon enough.  Chess play today though is too dry compared to the past. 

Chaotic thread ... is it who is, ie now, the greatest? Or who is the greatest of all time, ie maybe was? Capablanca and Morphy are dead, have been mentioned and have not made it into the list; Lasker and As-Suli are just as (if not even more) dead and are up there in the list with the likes of Carlsen and Houdindi (!!). Does the OP know who "Houdindi" is? Or that As-Suli died over 1000 years ago, and that he didn´t play chess, but rather شطرنج‎ ? I think the thread should be cleaned up a little.
