That's an awesome Tal game above.

kantifields

the thing about Tal is it never really wotked against Spassky or Kortchnoi

Hands down Kasparov, not even close. Not Fischer, not Morphy, not Ivanov. Smile

varelse1

Still going with NN

What, disregarding the Soviet masters or Nakamura?

kantifields

Racist?  Against whom??  I simply give more credit to someone who made it on their own.  I find that more remarkable.  It is my opinion that Fisher had more natural talent than Nakamura (who I know and respect).

BTW I think Capablanca is a close 2nd.  He might have been first, but he did not have the obstacles and conspiracies to deal with.

TetsuoShima

nakamura really achieved a lot

kantifields

yup!  he had a good foundation, but then took off from there.  he is missing something in his training now to take the next big step.  it does not seem he can win a match against most top players

kantifields

fisher dominated his comtemporaries at a greater rate.  Carlsen is getting there.  Nakamura dominated the US, but when he went abroad, not so much.

TetsuoShima

well nakamura was still champion in fischer random

TetsuoShima

he has beaten aronian in the final, what is no small feat

kantifields

i guess i am not up to date on nakamura's acomplishments.

I dont think players still making their stamp can really be part of the "all time greatest" conversations.

plexinico

I think the greatest ever was Garry Kasparov followed closely by Fischer

Far more interesting: Who was the worst player of all time?

 magnus carlsen

Is still too early to call Magnus the best, yet.

Though history may well prove that correct.
