Probably John Watson. Watson made me realize that strong players (almost) always think in terms of concrete analysis first and abstract principles second.

That's correct.
Barsen's opening is, of course, playing b3 on any move after move one

Well, I still think of it as part of the opening, if only super-duper deferred "76, b3! an unexpected opening shot -- particularly unexpected as it's happening in the endgame!"
