Botvinnik. World Champion 3 times and fought to get his title back 2 times! The King of Perseverance.
Philidor resonates a lot with me. No opening theory but a ton of endgame knowledge! His insightful games shaped the way chess is played today. Kasparov is another favorite for his exciting games and brilliant play.
