Role model: Magnus Carlsen                                   Person who started me: my friend                                How I started: I saw a chess board and asked my friend about it, and he taught me chess, so I got interested and I practiced with my mom and dad, and got good at it, so I went online and started doing chess there, so now I am good at chess.

I started taking chess semi-seriously in 1970, when Fischer was on his run for the World title.

My starting point is I started when I started cos I thought to start at the start was the start I needed to start well.

Bobby Fischer when I was a kid in the 80s. Stopped playing for years and it was Magnus Carlsen that inspired me to try again.

I was influenced by the film Searching for Bobby Fischer therefore was inspired by Fischer, Josh Watzkin and Pandolfani (which I believe is bot on chess.com not too long ago) along with the software Chessmaster at the time.

Evidently, my playing preferences are the English Opening and the Sicilian Defences.

Chessmaster was awesome! I really liked the one they did when they partnered with Josh Waitzkin and called it The Art of Learning.

I "learned" in the mid 70's, and really got into in during the Karpov vs. Korchnoi match in '78.

My only regret is that i wish i really knew how to study back then.

Bumvinnik

Sibling rivalry started it...then while I was homeless and wondering around I stumbled upon a park that had some people playing and the rest is history...15 years now 🤔...and I suck 😔

Peter Noone?

I know "Richard V" was a player. I didn't know about Henry VII (I am, I am).

Bumvinnik

Botvinnik is my role model 🤗... Now if I would actually listen to his advice and study I might improve 🤔

My role model is Gotham Chess. The person that started me was a frequent customer that comes to the grocery store I work at. And how I started, me and one of my coworkers are facing the frozen section and he walks up to me and asks if I play any chess, and I said I did, and somewhat enjoyed it, but I wasn’t very into it, and he mention corespondent chess, and he said the next time I see him to let him know if I was interested, the next time I saw him he gave me his info and the same night we started playing against each other, and he has been teaching me how to play, and he has heavily complimented my playing to others, I never though I would play chess again, but man.. I am enjoying it a lot

Rock on! I watched the movie a couple months ago again lol.

I dabbled with chess at the time and picked it up seriously recently and it’s very funny not much has changed in chess within terms of classical theory and tactics which allowed me to jump right back into the playing pool.
