>They are considering Chennai, India.<

If that's true, they can kiss good press coverage goodbye. What, is Anand going to bike there?

Uhh...not really.

I happen to travel to Chennai once each year on these things called planes ... plus grew up there for about 8-9 years as far as I am concerned, they never had problems with press getting access to stuff.

It is a very  tech-savvy and wired metro with the usual traffic/getting-around nightmares that most big cities in south Asia are plagued with ... though if Rafa Nadal can play there and get every shot of his covered (back in 2008)  you'd have to assume my home town can pull off a World Championship. :)

The problem with the press is not many US outlets are going to want to pony up the $2000+ for a round-trip plane ticket (plus transfers) to East Jesus, India. I'm sure it's tech-savvy and it will be great if you live in Pakistan, just a car ride over...

Are you trolling or are just generally clueless about how press works in the 21st century?

If a gorilla breaks wind musically to the tune of a Chopin Etude in a zoo in east asia, you will see a youtube video and hear about it via your local news correspondent in less than 4 hours.  This whole technology + interwebs thing is awesome.

Also => Why is "press" automatically a US thing? The rest of the world kind of likes to "report" things as well, ya know :)

I think Paris would be a great city....

Yes, there won't be a correspondent from your local newspaper, but who cares? Top GMs will be available as commentators no matter where it takes place.

I wonder if Sultan of Kings will work as part of Magnus' team ?

Danny Rensch.

Based on his last awesome chess video he would give many opening novelties to Magnus that Anand would find too hot to handle.

I studied a game intently between Anand and Aronian from a Tata Steel Tournament. I was clear to me that Anand also studies openings intently. I am sure that Anand wouldn't get rattled too badly. I think it will take an intense effort from begining to end in every game in order for Magnus to subdue Anand. I am looking forward to it, with great anticipation. It is exactly what I expect to happen.

Why not Ivanchuk...

Ok. I'm just hoping without hope that it won't be located in some obscure Russian province or a Balkans backwater...but FIDE usually picks those kinds of places.

And no, India isn't going to work even though Anand hails from there...no-one can get there in a reasonable amount of time and if you want press coverage (and you do, you really do), host it somewhere where there aren't a lot of police on the corners, please?

Kasparov.

If that's absolutly not agreeable to Magnus, then Karpov.

grandbrother

Chenia or Madras whatever you can call that city, has not yet responded to FIDE's official application but was considered the most likely venue.

New York Madison Avenue was an alternate as of earlier this year(around February). Reference: enter world chess championship 2013 for details.

lol some one mentioned my Mogadishu, I would say don't even think about it. :)

Britney Spears. Let's face it, at his rating level, Carlsen doesn't need a chess-playing advisor. He needs a hot celebrity to bring to God-Knows-Where, India

Sure is, pal, but nothing beats having a live body there to cover it. Press coverage means sending someone there...not watching some amateur YouTube and filing a story based on that.

Sticking the Championship in the middle of nowhere is a guarantee that a lot of countries, not just the USA, won't bother sending anyone.  Which means your interwebs information becomes provided by as few people as possible.

I think a team made up of Nate Silver, Chuck Norris, The Aflac Duck, Geico Gecko, and the Nationwide Insurance Disaster Guy would be a pretty unbeatable team.  Unless Anand can get Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny, that is.
