Well, the TD has options obviously, but because you have the highest score so far you should be paired with the toughest of the 2.5 which can be done by rating or even looking at the tie break (who achieved 2.5 against the strongest opposition).  But it shouldn't be too hard to see that player b, which such a high rating, would be the toughest of the 2.5, so my guess is you should get to play him.

I don't think there would be any rules concerning treating differently players who achieved 2.5 with a bye vs 2.5 with no byes, as byes are a common part of a tournament... but that's the only way I figure you wouldn't be paired with player b.

You had black last game but what about the first two games?  I assume player b had each color once and is up for either so I'd guess you'll get whatever color you've only had once so far.

hey if I am playing the person rated 2027, does that mean I will be playing white or black against him? In the first round I was white, in the second round I was black, in the third round i was white. Player b: in the first round he was black, in the second round he got a .5 bye, in the third round he was white. So what colour will I be if I am playing him?

rigamagician

You are due for a black, so that is probably what you'll get.

willilo

but my opponent is due for black too isn't he?

willilo

Huh what do you mean? player b has played white in the last round and so have I..

You should get black because it would NOT be fair to give you 3 whites out of 4 games, that would give you 2 more whites than blacks. If he gets white he will have only 1 more white than black and your colors will be equal at 2 whites and 2 blacks.  How many rounds is this event ?

willilo

5 rounds for this event

Another thing .....in swiss events there is a rule that states that the "higher RANKED " player gets his due color, in this case that would mean you get black since you are both due black but you are higher ranked.....

I did not know this...

willilo

So if I am higher ranked does that mean I will get my due colour or does it mean that I will get white again because player b has a higher rating than me?

You should get your "due color" , which is black, because you are higher "ranked" ( not rated ) . You have more points in the event and this makes you higher "ranked" than your opponent, regardless of ratings. If you both had the same score then ratings would matter and the higher rated would be higher ranked ( with the same score in the event. However, in swiss events the equalization of colors trumps alternation...... this means you should never have 2 more blacks than whites or 2 more whites than black , so giving you a third white in 4 games is very, very unlikely. You should get black , which also equalizes your colors.....

Thanks Reb, now i can prepare!
