Tonight I'm playing white at my local chess club. I would like to play c4 instead of my usual e4. I want to play an english game.

Who would like to help me and play a couple of blitz games on live chess (rated or unrated whatever you prefer) to prepare me for this evening? I would prefer someone who is around my rating  ± 1400 (blitz) in games 5+5.

I would like to play a couple variations to try and see how it goes.Cool

I'm no good with the English, so I cant help, but all I will suggest is that you should stick to e4 if its a league game. Give yourself the best chance of winning, because you don't want to second guess yourself (which you will by playing an opening you know nothing about).

I dont know if you are a pure Ruy Lopez player like I used to be, but I recommend a switch to the Scotch Game, if that is the case. Not so much theory involved, and the general opening principles will be good enough to pull you through at club level :)

If you disagree please say, I'm happy to talk with you more about this...especially as I have a league game tonight as well. I' cannot wait to start!!! :)

It's not like I never played played it before, but I would like to try some new possible variations and practice my respons to e5.  Also my reason for the english is because it's an opening that is not played a lot at my club. So if I have more knowledge I about it, I will have an advantage!

You never answered my original question, why do you want to switch from e4 in the first place?

Do you know how many systems the English can transpose into? Its going to require more than looking at e5 responses. How would you deal with c6? c5? Nf6? e6? g6? all just examples of course

I'll be more than happy to play you unrated... :) See you in a second if you are there
