whos The Best Chess Player Ever?

No definitive answer, I'm afraid.
1. Highest rated ever?
2. Lost fewest games?
3. Most dominant over rivals?
It's personal choice of who's best of all the World Champions

a kid at my school during the early 40's or 50's called jack king, he apparently won every game he played at our school winning the school and area championship 5 years in a row, he even beat the teacher who runs the chess club, week in week out, who used to play for england. then he dissapeared one day and knowone has herd from him since.
its an old school myth, i would like to think its true, but i find it hard to believe
how strange....

Good choices guys! Alekhine was a great attacker, but Tal was so unpredictable that he was unplayable!

Being objective, The Best Chess Player ever is Kasparov, because he knows all the previous games of any past chessmaster, until now he knows the chess more deeply than any other man, (not if kramnik is the exception).
If the answer is about the most talented chess players ever, i would assume that were Morphy and Capablanca, both descendant from spaniards curiously.

Lenny Bongcloud is my hero. He helps beginners win XD
(I should recommend my newbie pupils to play him a couple of times to boost their confidence!)

If you need to be alive, how is it the best EVER????
How about a top 5?
1. Kasparov
2. Alekhine
3. Morphy (consider the time!)
4. Tal (for the sheer beauty)
5. Karpov
Like Morphy during his time, Capablanca was the best player of his time. Capa's opening play was certainly not the best. Hence he was eventually beaten by Alekhine, who was excellent in all departments of chess! It is very difficult to suggest who is the best player of all time. Perhaps using a computer would help. Off hand, I would vote for Gary Kasparov followed by Alekhine, a close second and Fischer, third!

Any top 5 list of all time that doesnt include Fischer cant be taken seriously.

It's hard to compare chess masters from different eras. Modern masters have tons of highly efficient study materials. I'd venture a guess that Anand and every other top-tier GM has *every* professional chess game ever recorded, computers to analyze positions, and instant communications to talk to far-away advisors. Compare to, say, Lasker. Or Fischer.
