Why? 10 minutes?

So I just started trying this free version with online players and can't understand why we can't play the match till the finish of the party if the clock runs out, cause I was the one who stood winning.
If it let us go till the end then I win. Instead it said I lost the game. Why? It's not about statistics, its about logic, I can win a lot with only a few figures, I do it consciously.

You have to be able to conclude the game before your time expires. Clocks are part of the game and as long as the side with time has sufficient material to mate, they'll win.

There is higher time control, like 30 min or 60 min. And can i tell you why is there time limit. In the early 1800s, in a chess match someone thinked for all day long, and the other player went to have dinner, to date, etc.
