My only real complaint is that there is no news menu that I can easily see. I can get to news by typing it into the taskbar, but surely news is a major item people look for?

So you select Settings (lower left cog wheel) then Customize Sidebar. Open Community and find News. Check it. It will then appear as a separate item in your first (long) list. Drag it (IN THAT LIST) up into the location you want it on your sidebar. :-)
Remember to hit SAVE at the bottom of the list. It'll then appear as a single separate item in your sidebar.
ADDED: I moved everything I didn't use into the 'Other' in case I want it later. As is, only the things I want appear now in my sidebar.

There have been instances where constructive and actionable feedback has reversed some changes. That has usually been a temporary change, to make updates based on the feedback.
Key menu options are gone. Notifications, at least on the iPad, must be touched twice to go to the post.
