Why am I losing all the sudden?

So I've been playing longer games for the most part and while I go up and down in the short term, the trend is moving up in rating over the long term thanks to all the advice here and on Gotham's youtube. Finally had a really good game as far as accuracy. He conceded a little early in my opinion but this is the highest accuracy I've ever played. 0 mistakes, blunders or missed wins and 93.2 accuracy. Do I get to be a IM (Inconsistency Master)? The times where I lose multiple times in a row, I knew I was tilting and just played more out of sheer stupid ego.

Before I answer, where you white or black in the above game. I don't know how to differentiate.

If I'm not mistaken, all games I post will be me on bottom like it is when you play. I could be wrong. But I'm white.

Okay.

1 - It's best, on move 6 here, to not go Nd5. I know you know that now, but I figure I'd explain if you didn't understand why. While it's usually best to take the center, any human being will kick your knight out right after, making it a waste of a tempo. Just thought I'd explain because that same idea applies to lots of moves where people go into the center for no reason.

2 - Great game overall. As far as inconsistency goes, the best way to overcome it is just to play more. The more you play the more you recognize, and the less you feel confused/out of your element.

3 - If you find you're losing over and over again, you probably need to cool off and just take a  break. You might be annoyed without even realizing it and playing spitefully, which can lead to stupid moves, which can lead to further annoyance. It's usually best to take a break, think about your mistakes, clear your head, and go back in with a positive mindset.

Again, I thank you for all your advice. I've been slowing down and watching a lot of GothamChess and I feel like this is my best game ever. Why? Because I suck against early Queen attacks, but I found my way out of it and then I felt like I was in control the whole game after that. I analyzed and see some mistakes and hanging pieces...but with the game played out...I never felt in danger, was in control and finished with a 97.3% accuracy despite the errors. Even with the mistakes I made, I ended with only 1 inaccuracy despite the analysis telling me there were a lot of better moves. I've also learned the very valuable lesson of "you don't always have to take" which is a concept that really helped me stay confident. The other lesson I've been implementing is to always looks for safe checks when being attacked (thanks Gotham). And my endgame was pretty much spot on, which is where I find my biggest issue (I know, play more puzzles). I don't like the analysis here shows my opponents name because I'm not trying to gloat...just show that I've been listening to the advice and implementing it. Now to rewatch Gotham's Queen spamming video so I don't get so nervous next time. I'm on a 6 game winning streak, although I probably just jinxed myself.

I'm obviously black, for the guy that keeps messaging me what color I was.

Thanks again

10 Game winning streak! Couldn't have done it without you guys. Now I'm afraid I'm really jinxing it and going to lose soon! Last game was under control even though I didn't play very well.

14 win streak!  I can believe how this advice has turned my game around. While my play hasn't been perfect in terms of what the computer wants me to do, I've felt in control in all these games. A couple of things to attribute it to...1. Is this move still good even if they don't fall into a trap? 2. Stop hanging pieces 3. Know valuable trades 4. and most importantly...you don't always have to take. Sometimes their pieces make a great blockade for yourself when you can pin there's in place.

In this last game I'm white and at certain time the system says a3 and h3 are the best moves and I'm trying to understand because I'm not hanging a piece or missing a take. My only blunder was a planned trade. I know the moves must be good because I've seen GMs and IMs play them...but I don't have that level of understanding yet.

just wanted to add something.. dont forget to develop your other rook to open files, or in this particular match u shared aRook to d-files.

Anyway, that was really a great winning streak.. it felt really good to improve right?

Yes, the winning feels great...but now I have the anxiety of "new car scratch" or ending the winning streak. The best feeling isn't so much the win, it's the feeling of control during the game. I hated the idea of memorizing because that seems less like playing with your wits...but now I think of it like NFL players memorizing plays.

I feel like my rooks and bishops get in each other's ways when developing, so any ideas on which should go first? Also, my plan is to develop before any outward attacks, but then my opponent will start attacking early and my defense is a good offense. Still so much to learn. I need to sit down and learn one white and one black opening.

Yeah, learning openings is a must. Puzzles will carry you through the mid-game (because the midgame is all about tactics/improving your position and that's the essence of puzzles) and any amount of endgame study at your level would be outstandingly helpful.

Don't worry about losing your winning streak. Early on, winning isn't important, exposure is. It's about playing a lot of games (without playing too many games - burnout is a real thing) and learning how to recognize positions, assess situations quickly, and find the best move. I now, at 800, am playing most of my games at 90% or higher in 5|5 - that's great - and it all comes from openings, puzzles, and endgame study. Learning those three things (along with time management, if necessary) will catapult you up the ranks. You'll play those at your current rating and wonder how they were ever able to beat you.

This is the best. Nothing better than that sharp incline. Finally lost to break my winning streak, so that pressure is off. 17/18 in my last games...however a few resigned very early and I'm not sure they gave up when they felt they lost a position or what. Way earlier than I think anyone would suggest. So I'm not sure I count those.

Batman2508

wow awesome job! after seeing your game I think you should be about 800-1000

Pretty Pheomonal play you did there.

Batman2508

don't worry too much on the streak, The only thing is if you lose, make sure you give a really good fight, and consistency matters so even if you win 17/18 thats really good.....

Wow thank you. Earlier in the thread we hypothesized that my 1300+ rating was a fluke of being started at 1200 and getting lucky...but then I noticed that my previous win streak of 10 was from back then. The competition has really increased. We didn't have chess streamers or youtubers that I knew about back then. Thanks for the encouraging words. You've just given me a new goal of hitting 800.

This was a helpful thread when reading it, glad that your game is improving again shaniac. Just don't be taking long breaks again from the great game!

Thank you. I'm still learning. I hit 700 the other day, but then started trying to learn a some new strategies and since I don't have it fully worked out, I went down below 600. But I'm finding it so much more fun not paying attention to rating. I'm never going to be a GM, or even a beginner tournament player...so rating doesn't mean much except matching me with people of equal skill. I've been playing a ton almost every day.  I only quit playing because I had kids and started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu...or human chess as we call it. Earned a Black Belt 6 yrs ago though. But it took my time away from the game and then I just kinda forgot about it. Glad to be back and glad the thread was helpful...it was helpful for me too.

It was fun revisiting this thread. According to the analysis, it's not my best game...but I hate early Queen spammers, so I felt like I stopped it and controlled the whole game. Yes, I see in the analysis better moves but it's still fun to beat the early Queens. I'm black....
