What features do you miss? In my opinion it’s a well made app. Most important it’s stable and that is not always the case with competitors like Square Off or DGT.

New full length video with gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg_whG0Ijh4

I have to say guys IT IS HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE. I was not expecting much since boards with self moving pieces have not worked out very well in the past. Now after watching this video I was so impressed at how fast the pieces move to the point I want one!

It blows the square off out of the water.

Not only that I think it blows away every other electronic chessboard. This is the future.

Is there a plan to move the base inside the piece? I like the overall concept but cannot get over the …… look.

I agree. The base looks so disproportionately thick. Otherwise, the product looks outstanding.

Because I'm thinking of this for someone with limited mobility, a demo of the speech recognition would be great. I understand it can announce its moves; I thought I read (or heard) that you can announce yours too, and it will understand "Pawn to e4" or just "e4)?

I have the Chessnut Pro (with premium wood pieces) and I love this thing. Works great and I get lots of pleasure out of it. I stumbled across a youtube video tonight about the move. I love that the Pro is a wooden (or real enough looking to fool me) tournament sized board with decently heavy pieces. Is the Move board also Wood or plastic? I very much like the idea of using this to study, removing the task of setting up positions. I am not offended by the robot bases (and think they could mask this better if it becomes an issue for others). I actually think the idea of little robots moving each piece around is quite ingenious and overcomes the limitations of other self-moving boards that had levers and magnets underneath, which made them susceptible to breaking down. Individual robots mean you just have to replace an occasional robot that goes bad (Bada Robot). I think this same technology is starting to be used in parking garages. Would love to hear some real-world experience from people using it.

It does and it appears to work quite well based on the demos I've seen. This could also be cool for blindfold training.

I've never heard of Chessnut until now.

A dedicated, self-moving, computerized chess set is nothing new, though obviously the playing strength is. The 1984 film The Lonely Guy has a very funny scene demonstrating one available at the time. Naturally, there are a few modifications to the operation adding a voice after it wins to make it resemble a condescending, "I just beat the patzer" chess player. The offer to shake hands, not available on the actual computer, is a nice touch too. Chessnut should take note and introduce an a**hole mode.

Milton Bradley (MB) went one step further and eliminated the arm. It more closely resembles the soon to be released Chessnut self-mover. Unfortunately, the MB set makes a lot of noise when it moves, perhaps like some human opponents you've had in the past.

I have a feeling this gimmick will not last long, probably no longer than those earlier models. I may be wrong; we'll see. Perhaps what would really make it sell would be a disembodied hand that twirls a captured pawn between thumb and middle finger to disturb your thinking. This would be Chessnut's Nakamura model, and it could come with various "inconsiderate" modes. Later on they can release the Niemann model that has unkempt hair and cheats when you least expect it. If they truly want to make their units life-like, these would be worthy additions.

I've got the Milton Bradley Phantom, and I've ordered the Move. The latter has piece recognition, so it will set up puzzles automatically. You can even scan a puzzle from a book using the app and the board will set it up. It's a technical marvel, and the price for the plastic set is very reasonable. It also has capacitors instead of batteries in the pieces, which is an excellent idea as they won't degrade like small lipo cell do.

It won't sell in huge quantities, but Chessnut know that. It's a labour of love, really. Should get mine at the end of October.

I saw that there was a "storage" holder for the pieces that is also a charger - so they can be charged overnight. But any rechargeable battery has a maximum number of rechanges. So just accept that These pieces, or at least the battery components, are wear-out-able and will eventually need to be replaced. We have a lot of these things in our life. We change the oil in our car, we replace worn tires. Things with parts that move wear out. The question is, will they be replaceable and for how long.

They use capacitors rather than batteries. That completely eliminates the issue of battery degradation.

My board arrived this week. My first experiences are very strong. Everything works as fine as promised. But the board is very big and heavy ==> that means, nothing for travelling. But this job is reserved for my Chessnut Go!

Great to hear that. Should get mine towards the end of next month.
