why are chess players so mean and why do they only think about themselves?

I was in the registration line for a chess tournament.  Some guy was butting in line but I said it was okay if he wanted to be in front of me and he was thankful.

After registration was done, I went to the refreshment table.  But there was only 2 plastic cups left for the orange juice and that guy I help in registration was there.  He saw me coming but decided to take one remaining cup for himself and gave the other cup to someone else.

I don't understand why people always look out for themselves and don't help others out in return.

That's nothing.....there was a weekend tournament where the last round was late Sunday, and a guy had a dead won position plus his oppenent had almost no time left on his clock, but they met the limit so the loser sealed a move to be opened up the next weekend. (This was after the guy with the impossible to lose position mentioned to the loser that he had driven over two hours to get there and had a long drive back home, not to mention coming back the next week to finish a dead-won game). Guy didn't say anything, just sealed his move and said goodbye.

Week later the guy drove back to the tournament hall, his oppenent wasnt' there at start time, so he started opponeont's  clock and asked the TD to open the  sealed move.

It was "Resign".

Hahahahahaha what a doooooosh thing to do. He will go to hell for that I think.

Not all chess players.  Individuals of any interest who are assholes tend to be memorable.

I'm going to remember this story next time someone is on here crying because their opponents don't say GG or accept rematches.

Good thing I don't like orange juice.

Wait... what? I am not accustomed with the USCF rules and whether they differ from FIDE but how can you seal a move?? Why is this allowed? Is adjournment allowed in the 21st century?

Played in a tourney this weekend, and a game was going into the next round (play with add on, and it was a very long endgame, the 50 move rule would kick in around move 120) so the TD adjourned it and the player on move sealed his move.  The position and times on the clock were recorded, etc, and they finished it after the last round of the day.

Of course. Because that guy was a jerk. In order not to be a jerk, Rowsweep would have to be NOT that guy.

Next I'll explain why you can't travel back in time and be your own grandpa.

Pulpofeira

Kleelof, you are evil! :D

thatcham

Be civil anyway.  He's probably a ass kicking away from being a civil person himself.  Hopefully it won't be to shocking when it comes his way..

Increased chance of autosomal genetic disorders, that's a pretty good reason not to be your own grandpa.

Pulpofeira

I'm not interested, anyway. Both of them died because civil war.

That is hilarious. Super troll points for the guy who resigned. I love it.

On the internet its all lols for trolls.  In real life you get punched in the face.

And he's not the first.  I vaguely recall some GM doing this in the 60s (I wasn't alive, but it's a relatively well known story).

Rowsweep?  Maybe say something out loud next time that happens.  The guy must have seen you heading for the OJ.  How rude.   Next time, don't be letting people jump the queue...they only go on to take advantage. Undecided
