Why are speedruns even allowed?

If the speed runner's opponents do not know they are playing a speed runner, it is dishonest and should not be allowed (whether rating points are later given back is irrelevant). If, however, it is done transparently with everyone involved knowing what's going on and participating voluntarily, then, of course, there's no issue with it whatsoever.

If you played one, you didn’t even know. You just lost, maybe lost the next couple of games too, then you won 3 in a row.
This is really silly. Play the game.
How many games I have played and how many of them were against speed runners is completely irrelevant. Dishonesty is dishonesty and there's nothing silly about it.

Maybe you guys could form a league.
If I got clobbered by someone and found it was Naroditsky on a speed run. I’d be more interested in finding out which channel so I can go watch myself up against a GM.
You guys aren’t in it for the competition, it’s all about the precious number that means absolutely nothing.
I am going to bet neither of you have been in otb tournaments. Wait till you get paired up against someone 300 points above you in a 4 hour classical game.
When I play in an OTB tournament (and I do play in those), I know precisely whom I play, and if my opponent is 400 points above me, I know it.
And I am not complaining, just giving my opinion.

That makes you a troll. A dishonest one.

I played US champ Nakamura. One of the cool things about chess as a sport is an ordinary player like me can do that.
Try getting a 1v1 against LeBron James.
Few other sports are set up to allow this sort of thing. But, I guess people will still find a way to complain.
I am sure if they found a cure for cancer, someone would complain about it!
@Ubik42
Playing against stronger players is not the issue. You played against GM's, very happy for you. I, too, played against titled players (in a simul and one-on-one). When I did it, I knowingly chose to do it.
PS: Bringing a cure for cancer into this discussion is beyond moronic.

it’s not a dismissal by rating, it means in otb you will routinely get matched against someone with a big strength disparity in a long game, not a throwaway blitz. It is the nature of swiss tournaments.
In the first round of a swiss, the top half
gets paired against the bottom half. If you are in the middle of the pack your first game will be against the highest rated player.
I got posted against a local life master several times in round 1 or 2.
I liked those games, I played some of my best chess. And lost.
