Why are speedruns even allowed?

Maybe game 1501 will be against a speed runner and you can come back and complain about the result.

If I get a game against one, I will come back and brag about how well I played.

So it’s not an actual complaint about anything of substance.

Ok.

Again, I already said that I am not complaining. Just giving my opinion: anonymous speed running is dishonest.

Dishonest. Get a grip.

I have lost 248 blitz games and won about 325 or so.

I imagine when I first signed on I plowed through the first several hundred rating points since at that point I had been playing chess for decades.

They should toss me in jail!
Ubik42
It’s not irrelevant, anyone who signs on may not get a starting rating that relates to their actual strength and this certainly swamps any “speed runner”.
Ubik42
I really find it hard to take serious by anyone who has played 1000 games and doesn’t even have a game against a speed runner to show for it, but complains endlessly.

It doesn’t sound like a serious complaint.

I had a daily game refunded points recently because I assume cheating was discovered. I don’t even care.

They watched me play their computer. I improved a little. Apparently I also have a fan who is interested in watching me play stockfish. Maybe they want an autograph.

Who cares.

Sandbagging would be complainable in a money tournament. That was the original point of doing it.

I cannot imagine any other reason for deliberately losing games. If someone wants to lose 10 games so they can win 10 games online, I cannot imagine how you would catch them, nor why anyone would waste time doing it.

My blitz was I think 1500 seven years ago, then collapsed to under 1000 when I recently came back. Maybe they can accuse me of sandbagging. I’d be like “What the hell for lol”. I can’t understand the point unless it’s a money tournament you are trying to qualify for.

speedrun?

Ubik42
Speed run is some GM youtuber getting a new account and starting from zero with something like “I am going to play only the London and opposite side castling no matter what and we’ll see how far I get”, and the viewers get to see a master do opposite castle pawn storms against being levels of opposition.

I think it is very instructive. i learned stuff watching a few speedruns like that.

There is a old book with the same theme called “chess master against chess amatuer”, where you get to learn how a master punishes beginner mistakes.

These are really good learning tools.

I keep telling cloudburst here to look up Robert Ramirez videos on the czech pirc and then his speedrun with it. I told him he would improve.

I was a chess coach for beginners. If I start again maybe I use some games like that. I became a fan of the czech pirc for blitz games and also for beginner players, it can be used against lots of stuff, and can get quite tricky and tactical.

He don’t want to try it and instead goes on about it being unfair despite never playing against a speed runner in like 2000 games or something. Blitz games are throwaway games. Get a grip dude!

oh please. lol.

You remind me of a certain politician obsessed with recounting a clearly lost election.

You haven’t played any speed runners anyway, and if you did, it would be a blip.

Like “Hey I played 1000 games, I think in one game a month ago the guy played to good, must have been a speed runner can I have my points back”.

Wait until you get to otb tournaments and you have to play 3 opponents in a row all 200-300 points higher than you. I did that.

How about five? lol

happened to me a month ago

Lucky Bizmark!

You got one to show us?

The initial rating disparity when you first join the site is unfortunate, but not dishonest.

And before you again bring up cancer or jail time or whatnot, let me clarify: yes, speed running is a small dishonesty. In the grand scale of things completely unimportant (which makes me wonder why I even joined this thread), but dishonest nonetheless.

Well, perhaps to form an opinion about something you always need to experience it personally, but most of us don't. We call it abstract thinking, maybe you can try that.

Statistically, I doubt even thousands of players rated over 2000 doing speed runs would really affect your rating that much.  The odds that you'll play 2,3,4,20 Masters in a row is rather low.  Besides, getting crushed makes me better.  I go look at the games, those traps that were 5 6 moves deep.  I don't get caught in them again.... hopefully...

20,000 people and 9 titled players were banned this month alone.  Do you think Speedruns attract people that act sporting?  Of course there will always be issues but imo speedrun exacerbates them.  Its sanctioned dishonesty period.  Cause the site to lose credibility and respect.  These forums don't help either.  But I mean this is the internet...

You keep saying it but have no proof for what is a conjecture of your hurt ego. I'm starting to think, you actually have played a streamer, your game featured on a twitch or youtube video and it hurt you badly.

Zero proof that issues are caused by speedrunning streamers and zero proof that chess.com is losing credibility. It's the most successful chess site by far, a few people thinking or liking lichess better, doesn't mean a loss of credibility.

I don't even care anymore.  I'm not gonna last anyways.  I feel like taking the book i bought and my DGT board and burning it in a bonfire in my backyard.

Why in the world would do that, what does that have to do with anything? Because a few people cheat and disagree with you, you're gonna give up?

its common sports sense bud.  Proof?  lol.  Proof that a site that sanctions dishonesty breeds dishonesty? Especially since we are talking about the internet?   lol ...   and ya I give up, I can't stomach it.

I'm not arguing about sport sense, an opinion that speedruns are dishonest has some merit, however, you have zero proof, that speedruns are the cause of anything. That is your opinion, common sense doesn't prove anything, but I don't expect someone who references the bible to understand that.

And what a drama queen, wanting to give up and burn your own money because some people cheated, cheat and will cheat😂

fluffytitbabbler

I don't think you have enough information about me to be able to judge my sports sense. Except that I don't give a sh## about speedrunners, cheaters etc., simply because their effect on my person is negligible and I'm not here to judge and save the world. I'm here to learn, play and improve my chess, which is perfectly possible, believe it or not, for you as well.

Don't know what wish you're talking about, I didn't get any.

Again, this comment proves you don't have any.  And I find that fkn disgusting.

I know what you mean. I understand what you and others have against speedruns, I just don't think it causes as nearly big issues as you think. I personally never cheat in any way in any sport. But yeah whatever, be disgusted😂

You obviously don’t like the site, from what I’ve read at least, so just leave and go to a different site. Stop being a baby about it. You paid money? Too bad, that was your choice. You don’t wanna have this conversation anymore? Just stop talking here. Go to a different site for all I care lmao.

same could be said of you, right?

No...because I like the site and the people on it? And I *just* joined this conversation and haven’t been arguing for days?

to put it more succinctly: You’re complaining about someone complaining.

When someone is complaining so stubbornly, so much, and so stupidly as coolout, it's perfectly justified to complain about their complaining😂
