Why are there no websites willing to give out free information?

Precisely.

netzach

Exactly.

(Except for minor but important fact Scottrf that someone purchased that 2nd hand book in the first place! pdf copies are made from library books and all sorts of other mischief)

The author obviously did benefit initially from the first book sale in the case of 2nd hand copies.

Somebodysson

of course.

Obvious, but not increasing their revenue.

netzach

Jeezzzus...

Nothing from illegal pdf's Scott do you not understand that?

Zilch..

An author has already made money from a book that ends up on 2nd-hand market and that is important difference.

Following on from that in idiot language an author does benefit more from 2nd hand books than from illegal pdf's.

Second hand books don't help the authors or their families any more than illegal copies.

Most of illegal ebooks are quite simply same files you would get from online seller, maybe with exeption of any DRM feature. Hence initial sale was likely to occur.

netzach, Scott understands that!! Chill! there's no disagreement here! there's no misunderstanding, except that people don't seem to understand that everyone understands!!

I wonder how out OP is doing with all this 'free information' ;-> do you think that was a troll question btw? I mean, anyone who knows enough to log on to chess.com knows how much chess info there is online, free coaching, amazing blogs, etc. Or was it that chessmentor clone thingee that they were looking for?

The initial sale has already occured. The secondary resale has no effect on that.

Please don't ever think that you understand something I don't. That will never occur. You can't write a coherent sentence, let alone form a coherent argument. Now please don't reply to my posts. I'm not interested.

netzach

Untrue.

People will scan and upload library copies.

Remember this happening even before pdf's/internet at college for very expensive text-books.

2nd hand books (because a sale at some point occurred) Has helped the author Scottrf.

How you can follow on to compare that to being equal to something where no sale/income happened defies belief.

If you do not understand that then your only hope lies in brain-transplant.:)

interesting qinns. I've never bought an electronic book so I wouldn't know.

@scott: yes, it was clear (to me at least) that that's what you were saying. Netzach was having some difficulty understanding that you understood. It happens a lot on forums (and I am new to them, so I'm getting a crash course in forums...sometimes crash and burn '->...). People accuse each other of not understanding, and adopt postures of being smarter-than. They do things they would never do in face to face.

He just follows me finding reasons to argue since I told him how awful his ideas were in vote chess. Bored of him now.

Initial sales have occured for illegal downloads too...

Somebodysson

@netzach: CEASEFIRE! Ridiculous!

Reset tactics trainer yet this month Scott? Smile

Only one 2nd hand copy of a book can exist Scott since that is tangible/physical object.

Thousands of downloads can occur daily.

Clearly. Your point? It only takes a couple of tactics to beat your rating.

Make a poster for your wall, because you wont get there yourself.

More interested in me than actually trying to improve. Pathetic.

Well, let's produce empiric prove than. I bet 100 quids that out of dozen titles 11 will be twin copies of amazon listed books.

Frankly, I agree that older books or localy unique titles may be scanned copies but otherwise it is rip off officaly digitalized titles. Since I do data recovery I kind of know it.

As much I do not like branding piracy, I have to agree that unless ratio of download and sale would somehow reflect idea of preview before buying, piracy is a theft.

I agree, I'm not supporting it, and I'm not saying it's anything but morally wrong.
