Well, if I were in Japan I'd find better things to do than play chess.

You can do that anywhere!

In my junior high and high school days, I only met a few people who knew how to move pieces. Simply, chess isn't popular in Japan. For many Japanese, chess is an interior appeared in Harry Potter.

Even Shogi become unpopular among young generation. Japanese people have a lot of amusements  instead of board games like animated cartoons or games from Nintendo.

Similar to my country

It's crazy that Yoshiharu Habu is the best at both Chess and Shogi in his country. Incredible!

It is emotion of dominance like samurai.

As someone above noted, Habu is one of the very top Shogi players in Japan. Chess is just a sideline for him. Go, shogi, Mahjong are all much more popular than chess.

Japanese have a different mindset. The fact is that they aren´t so interested in chess because they haven´t any great players yet. In my humble opinion, the world would benefit from serious japanese chess players. If Hikaru Nakamura should win the Candidates Tournment, we could see more kids getting interested in playing professional chess.

interesting forum, but more interesting is: why India is bad in almost every sport? (taking into account they are 1.4 billion people)

It's a matter of funding - look at the top countries in the olympics - pretty much mirrors top spending and resource allocation - i.e. lots of money to spend on non essential things like dominating the world at team pursuit cycling.
To reach top level you need to have a lot of things in your favour - natural talent and continued good health, relative wealth so you have space and resource to train and practice all day every day, and investment in trainers, coaches, facilities like stadiums etc.

The amazing thing is that sometimes countries with less resources manage to produce world champions against all the odds.

they play games like go and shogi go is very easy any chess player can learn its tatics like in 2-3 hours and in months gain a good rating and shogi is very boring bacuse of its annoying cringe rules

That's probably because they prefer seppuku.
