Why arent more people playing freestyle chess?

Just got into it recently and it has been a new source of inspiration to play more chess really, openings are completely thrown out of the window and there are better chances of getting a more complex and interesting game, yet so few people play it. I guess chesscom doesnt have good enough support for it for now, but they should definitely invest heavily into it. Its not simply a weird variant, but a great new way to play and learn the game

go to "new game", then on the web version you can switch the type of game from standard to most variants that are popular

i love freestyle chess more than the regular

i think theyve been investing heavİER within the past year with freestyle chess tournaments and all

yeah they are organizing quite a few online and over the board tournaments but overall support is pretty low for us casual online players

Chess960 delves into complex positions, with closed lines with no avenues of attack. Thats why I have stopped playing Chess960, it doesn't offer much attacking skills.

From a 2400 in Standard Blitz (1800 in Chess960 before leaving it)

thats an interesting take, i havent experienced that yet, maybe because of my level

Chess 960 is chess 960. Not chess.

i mean it was also envisioned by arguably the best chess player of all time, as a new way to approach the game so
