(#408 gman) holy crap. (Penny likes her's on a cracker) I don't feel like reading through the hundreds of posts of bs that have made their way onto this thread. so just in case no one has given The_Ghostess_Lola the simple and real answer as to why you cannot make a move  called "uncastle", I will now risk repeating what has already been said.

There are 2 reasons you cannot uncastle, and one way you can when you need to.

reason 1: there is no move called uncastle. (So. It doesn't even need a name actually - just to move back.) you said it yourself it isn't a move allowed to you by the rules, but just to clear up the ambiguity about a pawn being the only piece unable to return to its original position...

Reason 2: You are not allowed to move 2 pieces in one turn. (Yes you are. You actually move (3) when promomorphing - your pawn captures a bishop, say, then you make it a queen. See ?....you moved (2) of your own pieces & (1) of your opponents !) Castling is the only exception to this, period. the rules say so. (Nope. Don't believe him everyone.) Therefore, by "uncastling" in 1 turn without another written exception you are breaking the rules. and all other pieces that are allowed to return to their original positions also have to do so through some series of legal moves.

now the good news for those times when you don't want your king in the corner anymore and/or you want your rook back to the a or h ranks. in just 2 moves you can get your pieces into a roughly "uncastled" position. (That's not good news. It's lousy news. It's too slow.)

so to recap, uncastling isn't a thing BECAUSE it isn't in the rules, (then let's not call it that. I don't really care.) and anything not in the rules is basically not allowed, (Not True. You need to familiarize yourself with the "book". Open it. Study it. Get back to us.) like say dropping in pieces that you've captured to use as your own. but you can "uncastle" if you use multiple legal moves to do it. got it? can we please lock this thread now? (At this point ?....I care not if we do.) can the hundreds of off topic or combative and non-helpful comments stop?

The "original" square, if I knew nothing of chest (blah, blah, blah, blah...), would mean where my K was at the moment of decision. It should read "initial board setup" or "commencing game play" or something like that.

Okay. Argument (2).

Say I'm white and I castle 0-0. Per the way 3.8a is written, if I Uncastled, I would step my King (2) squares from g1 to e1 and swing my QUEEN'S Rook over to f1....for what could conceivably be called a "0-0-0-0".

Seriously??

So this is how you think?

To you, the "Original square" could mean any square that a piece may be occupying at any point in the game?? The square the king happens to be on during the moment of decision?

So at the end of the game if my white king is on a1 that would suffice as being called it's original square?

Your lack of intelligence boggles the mind.

Obviously, you are just being stupid. There's no conceivable way that you actually believe this to be true.....unless of course you happen to be dumb. Allow me to define the difference between the two:

Stupid - When you know something is wrong, but you do it or go along with it anyway.

For example: Stealing money. You know it's wrong, but you do it anyway.

In your case, it means knowing exactly what the word "Original" means, but intentionally telling everyone that you think it means something else.

Dumb - When you honestly didn't realize what you were doing was wrong.

For example: When you intentionally drive through a stop sign because you didn't realize it meant stop.

In your case, this would mean that you actually didn't know what the word "Original" meant.

Based on what you have said, those are your only options. Unfortunately for you, you must choose one and live with it.

If you choose to again argue the point, then you will have involuntarily selected option #2.

Nowhere in USCF Rules does it state that one must have some prior knowledge about chess to interpret their rules. That's why I have the right (since USCF knows not my rating) to take these rules as letter.

FIDE may be bit more presumptive....just 'cuz they're more global. Tho' that's something I would wish they could improve upon.

Which is the entire basis of this discussion & the foundation of my argument, right ?

The_Ghostess_Lola

As far as the guy in #464 w/ the lovesick horsey's ?....whatever.

TGL...

Hey, dude... You KNOW  the only reason "ur" garnering all this attention is because I spiced up your boring troll thread ten pages ago.

... just sayin'

just sayin'... THAT  I'M FABULOUS!

- HER NAME WAS LOLA...

- HE TROLLED THE CHESS RULES...

I have to hand it to you, Ghostess... Remember the guy that wondered if you could keep this going for 18 pages?  You're full of troll-poop, but in an awesomely FUN way. You're the "Ghostess with the Mostess!"

Now, you better slap me down with snarky condescension, or you'll disappoint me.

No way, I'm unfollowing this insanity before I catch something mental.

The_Ghostess_Lola

(#456) The rules clearly say "only 2 ways to move the king".

Uncastling is obviously a 3rd way.

****

Ur confuzed hotshot. To move back from a castling move does not violate the second way a king can move. I repeat - does not violate. It's still a scalar horizontal (2) square jump....vector excluded. IOW's, irrespective of a left-right direction.

Therefore, in disproving sentence #1 above, I automaticaly nullify sentence #2....as hogwash....Tongue Out....

Now. Both these sentences that you've asserted are just plain wrong & you should not only be ashamed of your logic glitch ?....but probably should receive a form of reason-inducing penance as a result.

What should everyone think he should get ?

cnj513

Too late!... You're hooked!

The_Ghostess_Lola

My name might be Lola & I may be kinda a showgirl, but ppl have been accusing me of this & that all this time for all these years, yet I've been happily contributing w/ my opinion and I will continue to do so for as long as I have fingernails (that get complimented upon all the time - I might add).

Umm... I'm going to ignore how you mocked my education and simply explain to you THAT ALL CHESS MOVES ARE VECTORS HAVING BOTH AMPLITUDE AND DIRECTION.

phphsjSxm.jpeg

...And you WILL follow the rules!

Sweetheart, I'm "gonna" make you famous.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Oh no.....him again.

cnj513

yup.

Thanks for the snarky condescension... I KNEW I could make you dance for me.

Lola, don't you have enough? You reached 24 pages...this is starting to get boring.

cnj513

I may not agree with Lola, But I will defend to the death her right to do whatever the heck she's doing!

Lola, Don't ever change!

The_Ghostess_Lola

It's 'cuz I haven't got back a convincing reason as to why I can't take back a castle move !....FIDE is kinda presumptive & yet it should be a game that a mom can get their child & read it & understand it w/out getting frustrated 'cuz they're confuzed about the rules....that's why.

Is that asking too much ? I mean, I'm trying to get to the bottom of all this and you ppl are treating me like I'm here as your object....you know, for your amusement - complete w/ factors of condescension thrown in for your own personal grins & giggles.

And when I get to Norfolk in August ? I'm gonna backcastle. And IDC if I win or lose. And if you don't believe me ?....then you just watch me. And as soon as the TD comes over & says no ?....I'm gonna push him over.
