Why can't I win???

No program is perfect, especially if you don't know the reason why a particular move is best. When I was learning, the only teaching source was a book, and with no good computer help, I was regularly baffled by why a certain move was good or bad. Today, with access to internet databases and engine analysis, learning is much, much easier. But chess is still difficult!

I would think myself a scholar. It might be that books will teach me more than a computer simulation. Do you have any book suggestions?

To be frank, I play chess because I like it when I crush my opponents. When there is less of the crushing, there is less joy for me. Especially if I lose. Today my dad beat me twice and I kind got mad....

Finally mated my opponent (snake) with king + queen combination.

It is kind of like asking:

I suck at physics. Everytime I try to solve a physics problem, I never seem to get it right. I have been trying them for a few months now, but always get them wrong.

I have never talked to a physics teacher, nor have I actually ever studied physics.

When will I start solving the problems correctly? I am really smart and just assumed I would get them right all the time!

She's not great, played her on the toilet and won even after sacrificing (blundering) a piece, missing that the checkmate square was defended.

I love you. I'm actually trying to get my physics up and your post is basically me, but I do study physics, just not as frequent enough so that I can become very good at it.

Your post gave me hope; like you were meant to post this.

Thank YOU, Kuroko! Most people who are above about 1400 have spent a good deal of time studying chess. Anyone can get to 1400-1600 if they spend time studying. This site has so many resources. Use the training tools here, and you can improve quickly!

Bet of luck!

So I played the blonde. I played at blitz speed and won easily; she dropped a pawn right out of opening and then later she "won" a pawn but got her piece trapped and then I mated her *hehe* on the back rank.

Here's a game I had against snake today. I can't believe I let snake take my queen like that. But thank God I got enough of her pieces before it happened.

Lucas really does help! I don't feel helpless anymore, lol.

But how come you lost a lot of your pieces then? If she wasn't that hard to beat, shouldn't sacrificing pieces be at a minimal? Or does chess work differently?

Yes it does. It's called simplification when up material.

Well, if you want to get better.

My advice is: Do not JUST play games.

Try to watch some videos about basic stuff like: fork, skewer, pins, "bad bishop",etc. The more you master these tactics, the more you will developp your intuition. Once you will master this, start to study some puzzles. That will teach you how to do some combinations with these tactics(witch is harder). Then, study some GM annotated games.

Don't focus on the openings, beginners that do that tend to only learn to memorize. Focus on the endgames. I hope that I helped you. Good luck in the black and white jungle!

I can see that you're making a lot of errors and got lucky at the end (assuming you were White) I would reccomend the following:

1. Tactic Trainer

2. Nunn's Puzzle Book

3. And other good material related to tactics

P.S (She is not a computer)

Look at me forgetting pieces and not guarding them well:

I'll see what I can do in regards to those books.

Your advice is good but i reckon the OP should stick to just playing games and doing tactics trainer until he can tighten up on those blunders. then when he can do that he can learn chess tactics.
