If white and black bother you, use pink and green or yellow and brown or purple and orange. You could be creative and have one player use bronze pieces with a 4 inch king and the other player stone pieces with a two inch king.
The point is that the color is irrelevant to the game. Its just a convention to signify to spectators and analysts who went first.
