Why chess.com hinders me from playing lower rated opponents?

Sometimes I had a glass of wine or two for dinner or lunch and want then to play bullet chess. Unrated games are boring. So I would like to play rated bullet games vs. lower rated opponents - lets say - 500 points below my rating until 300 points below my rating. It is often fun to play games where not every mistake is immediately punished and you have a lot of tactics (and mistakes)

Chess.com is the only chess site that does not give me this choice. I can only chose between any (min.)/any (max.) - (and will be paired practically against people of my rating range) or something like -400 until +50 and end all the time up against people of my level.

Why you hinder people to play against lower rated opponents? At all other chess sites I can chose the rating range I want. And misuse is hardly an argument as you can give very little or no points to someone winning against lower rated players.

I am not Magnus. I am an amateur and play just for fun. And Magnus does not play chess after some glasses wine (hopefully). And we are not talking of tourneys where money prizes and ELO points are involved.

well, what shall I say: not that is has to do much with the topic, but we are all very impressed

If you play just for fun, why do you find unrated games boring?  You realize that beating a player rated 300-500 points below is going to do nothing or little to his rating.  The only source of "thrill" is in the possibility of losing, and doing that after drinking alcohol is foolish.

it's like in soccer: nearly all matches (in the same league) are tight and often it's a mental thing: win or lose. If unrated, I have no motivation, honestly speaking. Only if rated you get this extra 10 % out of you..

the qestion remains: what is the reason chess.com does not allow? at all other chess sites you can set your challenge rating range to whatever you want..

The site doesn't want people to only play up in rating, so they require your rating to be in the seek range.

For the reverse, my guess it is to prevent players from boosting ratings by playing exclusively lower rated players.

thanks for your answer, Martin, I guess you are right and that's the motivation behind it (though I still think that it is not fair as you can gain nearly nothing when winning vs. much lower rated opposition while dropping a lot of points when losing)

Well gaining more or less nothing adds up after 30 games.

Good question, OP. This facility was present in earlier versions. It has been removed in V3. Maybe, it's a bug.

I wish you get struck by some cheater in this - 500 format.. And drop immensely. I mean It´s fun for you anyway, right? No harm done. lol

In the topic of the case: I think you should be allowed to get struck by a cheater playing even -1000.

All for your benefit, and freedom for Pokémons of the World.

Robert-E, go into 5/0 Blitz Arena. One can go in and out as you please. You encounter many lower rated players.

I guess you must become a premium member to  be able to choose your opponents like that.

It works the same way for premium as it does for non-premium.

sounds like you just want to pick off lower players. it's sort of like that kid who used to burn ants with a magnifying glass. nothing like getting drunk and stroking your ego by playing low rated players. if you get drunk and play rated games, take your loss like the rest of us. "it isn't fair, I had a glass of 'whine'."
