even AFTER the twitch chess.com PogChamp Tournament, with chat disabled users, who disable the chat like the *&#% they are, like penguinz0, aka @MoistCr1tikal, and v1brator girls, aka "guitar" like @Fuslie, u still cant talk *(&# during games, when these people did, via VOICE CHAT? dam, @Chess.com. go ahead and delete this account, but we all know how useless that is. Profanity disguised better: if people can tell what word was intended, it's not hidden enough.

Trash talking needs to be kept on the stream for that audience, rather than in the chat here on the site itself.

Cheers,

David, moderator

The only thing I am taking note of is your frustration to be able to be rude towards opponents. Chess.com is a business, and chess has always promoted sportsmanship through tournament play and players. I don't like that different rules apply to different people, but twitch streamers are promoting the game and generating interest - which is a good thing for the rest of us because chess was never seen as a sport in the United States. Conversely, if common players were cursing at their opponents, it would drive away people who want to play the game - which is bad. Women, for example, tend to get harassed more online. Creating a respectful culture online is representative of the respectful culture (most of the time) OTB.

You misrepresent my position. I am for e-sports, but chess is all for respecting the opponent. It has nothing to do with censorship, and allowing normal players to aggressively trash talk is not ideal for the growth of the game. Making chess an e-sport would be awesome. The problem is that high level play is boring to both outsiders and spectators, especially when Carlsen and company constantly go for Berlin endgames, or the play is too complicated.

I said, what is bad about censoring profanity, not what's so bad about profanity.

Profanity isn't bad, but it's not very respectful either (@discipleofKeres). So what's so bad about censoring it?

@DiscipleOfKeres to put a spin on this, on what you said, look at the PogChamp twitch chess matches. theyd be taking sht on there like like cr1tikal vs xqc, for instance, on VOICE CHAT, and not TYPE CHAT. obviously theres a difference if u were COMPLETELY for e-Sports as a whole, then you wouldnt mind the sht talking, even until the PogChamp chess tournaments.

@DarkDragonfusion you aren't getting what I'm saying... I don't think someone repeatedly saying "f! f! f!" is a good image for the chess community.

Agreed... How do you think the chess community would look like to people like that? Adding that just makes things worse.
