hmm. People are Lazy.
by nature, no?
and at its core, chess is just a game. thus we are not talking about farmers.

ok. It is a sport. where you Strenuously lift, 4 oz chess pieces....
anyways, I think the marathon runners are by definition less lazy.
depression (or autism or mental illness) are NOT inevitable, Teichmann.
Chessplaying can be a very healthy, mental exercise IMHO.
as for Kaynight's comment.
I haven't made up my mind yet.
perhaps all this beating up on dead horses, slowly rots ones mental faculties.
perhaps.
login0123, that's a big generalisation. I know a lot of people, and would include myself, who are keen chessnuts but aren't lazy and very active.
Quite the contrary. No great chess player was ever considered lazy, far from it, in fact. Grandmasters kept their bodies in peak physical condition for optimal chess play.
Bobby Fischer was a known boxing enthousiast and had several sparring matches with the greats of his time including George Foreman, Ali, and Frazier.
Mikhail Tal regularly went for early morning runs, as much as 20 miles a day when training for tournaments.
Garry Kasparov is an 8th degree black belt in Shudukan Karate and holds black belts in Jiu-Jitsu and Krav Maga.
Tigran Petrosian played on the Armenian national football team and was an avid weightlifter. At his peak, it was reported we was able to deadlift 800lbs.

I question the validity of these stats. Even marathon runners cap their training at 18 miles and only run marathon distances during competition.
To the OP, I don't think all players are lazy. The masters study and train very hard.
right I guess I was focusing on just "everyone" and specifically the patzers who like chess- and there's some pretty lazy ones
and you guys are all thinking of the great masters of the sport.
ofc the best in the world have to train their body to endure long periods of time of intense concentration. small differences in fitness might pay huge payoffs for top gm's....
why chess playing people are lazy?
