Why did I get the points

My opponent failed to move at all. Clearly, s/he must be under a restriction for aborting too often, because the game got given to me. And I got 9 ratings points

I can see the point in taking points off an annoying disconnector or abortionist, but why should the points then be awarded to their mildly frustrated opponent? They've done nothing to demonstrate superior play.

A loss on time (which I presume this was) is a loss regardless of how either player performed.

Not a loss on time.

Try aborting a game. You will get a message telling you that if you do it too often you will have the option suspended.

I assume that was the situation that my opponent was in. His/her ratings point should just disappear into the void. After all, 1200 points get created every time a new account is opened. There is o reason that a few should not be destroyed as part of the discipline process

They must have had the option suspended and were only given the option to resign. They may just have wanted to play a specific colour to try out a particular opening perhaps and got punished for it

Dont worry, you will lose them.

I think people dont get how rating work, you can have a 2000 rating by winning against aborters, once you start playing non-aborters (which is usually the case) you will be send back to your normal rating range.

So really, who cares if you win 8 points?

1- They are monopoly money

2- Ratings adjust themselves.

3- hi

If you abort to many games, the only option you will have is to Resign.

Its an online rating.  Unless youre a titled player, I dont put a lot of merit into someones online rating.  There are too many ways they can be ummm..."manipulated"

That's so unfair!  I will let you resign against me to lose them again.
