Ask yourself.

I can't speak for all beginners, but I usually do it to put pressure on black's weak f7 square next to the king.

Did I offend you? I'm sorry, that was not my intention. I just wanted to point out that you were a begginer too. We're all begginers.

It's not bad to ask yourself, even if you were a chess master. It's good to think through people's intentions to try to get an idea for why they do things.

I would say, 1: e4 2: Nf3 3: Bc4 is a decent chess system. It gets your pieces out quickly and doesn't really lose against any opening. It's not nearly as versatile as something like the London, you'll quickly find some openings where you'll want to put your bishop on b5 or do something else entirely. But 3: Bc4 is rarely a ?! move so it's a decent thing to play if you're not sure what else to do.

Often beginners are taught to develop their pieces without considering what their purpose is. Punish them for it and help them improve their openings.
