A lot of that is due to the children on site, remembering that adolescence is the last stage of childhood. And unfortunately for some older folks, chess may be the only relatively successful way they have to interact with the world. Chess is more than a game, it's a way to validate their lives. Pretty sad, but a bit too common for the good of the game.
why do chess players talk down to one another

very few people here congradulate someone or help someone out and instead most just say really harsh stuff that achieves nothing.
why cant the chess community mingle without snob and negative attitudes towards one another? that is no appropriate way to celebrate the sport.
